You’ll notice that Room 108 in the Lodge in Alan Wake 2 is locked, but you won’t find the key nearby. Surprise! There isn’t a Room 108 key in the game because this door is opened by completing a secret quest to find deer head locations that Saga won’t even mention. However, astute players will pick up that there’s something special about all the deer head locations that Saga can interact with.

To unlock Room 108 in the Lodge in Alan Wake 2, you’ll need to find all the deer heads in the game. There are 12 in total, and they’re scattered throughout the three primary locations that Saga visits. If you’ve missed any, you might have to spend some time backtracking. Fortunately, as long as you keep your eye out for them, the deer heads aren’t too hard to find.

Here’s where you can find all 12 deer heads in Alan Wake 2 and the first chapter they’re available:

Cauldron Lake deer head locations

There are three deer heads that can be found in Cauldron Lake:

  • Chapter: Return 1 – Murder Site: When you reach the Murder Site, search the southern part of the area to find a trailer. You’ll find the first deer head inside the bedroom.
  • Chapter: Return 2 – Witchfinder’s Station: Head up to the Witchfinder’s Station, which is clearly marked on the map. You’ll find the deer inside.
  • Chapter: Return 5 – Rental Cabins: Once you grab the bolt cutters and can access this area, look through Cabin #6 to find this deer head.

Bright Falls deer head locations

Five deer heads can be found in Bright Falls:

  • Chapter: Return 1 – Lodge: Look in the FBI field outpost inside the lodge for this one.
  • Chapter: Return 1 – Oh Deer Diner: Check the storage room in the back of the diner.
  • Chapter: Return 5 – Valhalla Nursing Home: Head up to the second-floor lounge, and you can’t miss this deer head.
  • Chapter: Return 5 – Wellness Center: Once you disable the security, head to the receptionist’s desk and grab the doorknob. Then, use it to enter the door next to the Security Room and give this deer a pet.
  • Chapter: Return 5 – Ranger Station: After finishing your business at the nursing home, you can leave via the rear gate and loop back toward Billie’s Boat Yard. Along the way, you’ll find a Ranger Station with another deer head inside.

Watery deer head locations

You’ll find four more deer heads in Watery:

  • Chapter: Return 3 – Suomi Hall: As soon as you make it to Watery, you can enter Suomi Hall. Look in the back to find a Break Room that contains this deer head.
  • Chapter: Return 3 – Lighthouse Trailer Park: Once you open up the trailer park, you can find this deer head in the trailer closest to the gate.
  • Chapter: Return 3 – Kalevala Knights Workshop: This deer head is located in the main shop area. It’s hard to miss.
  • Chapter: Return 3 – Ranger Station: When you make it back from the Overlap, the flood waters will recede from several areas. One of these is the Ranger Station north of Coffee World. Visit here to find a deer head.

What do you get for finding all the deer heads?

If you find all 12 deer heads in Alan Wake, which will be in Chapter: Return 5 at the earliest, you can return to the lodge to get your prize. You’ll see a deer at the end of the hallway when you approach the area containing the rooms, and you’ll notice it entering Room 108.

Now, you can enter Room 108 and gather some goodies like healing items and ammo. Unfortunately, that’s it for your loot. You won’t find any charms or juicy lore. You don’t even get a trophy or achievement.
