Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X|S Version Announced

A Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X|S version has been announced — 13 years after the game was first released on PC.

There will be an open beta launched around the time of update 6.5X for players to try out the game ahead of a purchase. The announcement heralds the start of more support for Xbox players for future Square Enix game releases.

Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X|S version release date

Final Fantasy XIV will be released on Xbox Series X|S in spring 2024. Despite continued support for the game on PS4, there is no Xbox One version planned. The Xbox Series X|S version will be a digital-only release that comes with faster loading. Those playing on Series X will also be able to make use of 4K support.

An open beta is currently scheduled to arrive alongside patch 6.5X later this year. Fixed dates for the beta will be announced at a later date. Those who miss the beta will still be able to try before they buy, though; the game’s free trial will be available on Xbox as well. It’s been expanded to include the Stormblood expansion alongside the original A Realm Reborn and Heavensward.

Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu promised today’s announcement is just the start of improved support for the publisher’s games on Xbox. Speaking at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2023, as reported by Gematsu, he said:

“We want to continue to deliver fabulous games to fans across the world, and of course, we want to welcome the Xbox community as well. Starting with today’s announcement of Final Fantasy XIV coming in spring 2024, and whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for players around the world to enjoy. We’re really looking forward to working closely with Phil [Spencer] and the Xbox team to make this possible.”

Neither Kiryu nor Spencer confirmed whether the future games would include releases of Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Final Fantasy 16, but it leaves fans feeling hopeful for the future.

Shortly after the game’s release on Xbox, the Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail DLC will be the latest expansion to be added in summer 2024. Players will head into the new world of Tural as a rite of succession takes place to find the region’s next ruler. This may even lead them to a city of gold, but the journey won’t be smooth.
